I was less than eager to get out of bed Sunday morning when my alarm went off at 5:45 in the morning. I hit snooze a few times but eventually dragged my butt out of the bed so I could get my run in before the temps climbed too high.
I did my usual prep routine. Toast, water, threw a Gu in my pocket and I was out the door. My target was eight miles, taking it up to nine or 10 if I was feeling good.
Turns out my legs had other plans and right around mile one I had to stop and walk because my left calf was crazy tight and I could feel a bit of a shin splint developing. I walked for a minute or two and felt better so I picked the pace back up again. A few minutes later the nagging shin/calf pain came back.
Stopped and walked again. I continued this way until about the two mile marker when I had to decided if I was going to turn left and push through the full eight miles or hang a right and cut the mileage in half.
I went right, cut the run short and iced a bit when I got home. In total I went four miles in 42 or 43 minutes. So my time wasn’t too crappy despite the leg issues. Hopefully things go better the rest of the week.
In weekend news, I saw “The Proposal” Saturday night with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds and it was hillllarious. I truly hadn’t been expecting that much out of it, but it cracked me up!
And in Monday morning commute news, I was able to take the Red Line on the metro for the first time since the accident last week. It was really crowded and running very slowly, but I got to work only a few minutes late. So I’m crossing my fingers that things will be back to normal sooner rather than later!
