Maryland Day!

Except for the rain and lack of running, this weekend was pretty awesome. I had hopes that I would be able to get my 8 miler in on Saturday morning, but my piriformis was still super sore, so I bagged it for another day of rest and foam roller/Stick action.

If the weather clears up today, I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll be able to get something in after work.

Now back to the weekend.

Saturday was Maryland Day, a giant festival of awesomeness at UMD that highlights all of the cool things each of the different departments has going on. So for example the agriculture kids give out free ice cream made at the dairy on campus, and the science kids demonstrate all kinds of experiments. It’s all day long, it’s full of free food and it’s a great place to reunite with old friends and get to meet new ones.

I got the chance to catch up with Susan near the free ice cream. It was so much fun to finally meet her in person! Yay for Terp running friends!

Look at Susan rocking her sweet Boston jacket. It’s how I spotted her!

The BF and I had plans to meet up with some of my friends at the Young Alumni BBQ, but we had some time to kill, so we checked out some of the other cool stuff.

Look it’s Testudo!

Then we went to find my name engraved on the fountain on the mall (aka our giant quad).

Do you see it?

Nerd alert: I was in one of the super exclusive honors societies on campus and as a reward for being academically awesome, all the members get their names engraved on the sides of the fountain.

First time seeing my name!

After that we spent the rest of the day catching up with my friends at various alumni receptions. I got to chat with some of my favorite journalism school deans and explore the beautiful new journalism building.

All in all it was a wonderful, if not exhausting, day.

I was planning to come but didn't end up finishing my Saturday activities until 2:30 and wouldn't have made it in time for the j-school reception. Sadness!

Yay Maryland Day! It was so fun meeting up with you. :)

I'm so mad at myself that I didn't apply for ODK! I got the application when I was a senior and was like "why would I join now? I'm graduating soon…" I didn't realize that's how you get your name on the fountain! I'm sure I'll be kicking myself for the rest of my life…

  5. Yay for the Boston Marathon jacket! I haven't worn mine yet, but Susan looks so cute in hers!

I would totally imagine that someone as cool as you would have your name engraved on at least one stone :)

  7. I have a hand print in a sidewalk by the house where I grew up. I thought I was awesome…until I saw your name engraved in stone. You're the awesome one.
