CrossFit Day Two: Nailing Proper Form

by - Friday, November 16, 2012

Getting out the door to CrossFit last night was a little bit of a struggle. I was wiped out when I got home from work, and since the beginner class doesn't start until 7:30 p.m., I knew I was going to have some down time at home where I'd get real sleepy.

After eating dinner, I set my alarm for 6:30 and grabbed a short power nap. I felt much better afterward, and had more energy to get to the gym.

I arrived a little early and got to watch the end of a regular class wrapping up. Damn did their workout look intense. I am equally excited to get to that level and terrified that I won't be able to keep up.

In class last night, we focused on proper form for dead lifts and kettlebell swings. Without proper form you risk really messing up your back.

We also did more squats last night, and let me tell you, my poor aching quads were not the least bit happy about it.

It's really uncomfortable to hold a kettlebell that way, but coach Colin promised we'd get used to it.

We wrapped up yesterday's session with a partner workout consisting of 10 kettlebell swings followed by 10 medicine ball slams, repeated four times. I was definitely huffing and puffing after that one, but I felt really good.

I know it's still early, but I am loving CrossFit. The group atmosphere and having a coach plan workouts and push me is really, really awesome. I'm looking forward to really taking advantage of the off-season to really get into CrossFit.

  1. glad you are enjoying it! the camaraderie and "competition" (mostly internally, of course) are part of why i love it too. the workouts never get easier - you just get stronger! being able to do a pullup makes me feel pretty BA too (even though i can only do 2 before needing a band haha)
