So this runner has been dealt some bad news. I went running twice this week and both times could go no more than about 5 minutes before I got really bad pain in my left shin. Since I thought it was just shin splints that I could work through, both times I kept running for 10 more minutes before it go real bad and I had to start walking.
I went to the doctor today and before he sends me for X-rays to check for stress fractures (b/c he wants to rule out other things first) he's having me rest straight up for three days and take 400 mgs of ibuprofen three times a day for the next five to six days. Then on day four I'm supposed to walk and see how that feels. If that goes okay for a few days, then I'm supposed to go out and walk 100 meters and jog for 50 and see how that feels. After all forms of exercise I'm supposed to seriously ice my leg.
If all that works, then I'm in the clear and can start running again. If it doesn't.....time for X-rays and dealing with the more serious ramifications of a stress fracture.
All in all I'm pretty bummed out, but I'm hoping that it won't come to X-rays and a stress fracture. I'm antsy enough knowing it's going to be 68 degrees tomorrow (the middle of January) and I'm not going to be able to run.
To cheer myself up, I rented a ridiculously chick flick tonight...A Cinderella Story...with Hilary Duff (I'm not a huge fan) and Chad Michael Murray. What can I say, something about a sappy plot line where average girl and attractive, popular boy fall in love and live happily ever after does it for me just about every time.

aw i'm sorry it's always hard to be set back like that, take this time to do nice things for yourself like chick flicks, chocolate, bubble baths and fine wine :)
ReplyDeleteOh no! I know how that feels. Sending positive thoughts.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your shin. Kind of sounds like you and I are going through the same thing.... Enjoy your chick flick! I did the movie thing last night... Moulin Rouge and Walk the Line!
