January Running Wrap Up

As I mentioned in my last post, half way through the month of January, my running was slow and steady.
We'd gotten lucky with a pretty mild start to winter, and I was in a good groove.
In the second half of the month, my groove got disrupted a little bit and I ended up running fewer times than in the first half of the month.
My trip to Jamaica over MLK weekend caused my first disruption.
We stayed at a gorgeous all-inclusive, but there wasn't really anywhere to run other than a treadmill, and I wasn't really in the mood to do that on vacation.
When we got back to DC, the temperatures had plummeted, and I was having a really hard time convincing myself to get out of bed in the dark hours of the morning when it was only 20 degrees with a bad wind chill.
I also started a new job this month, and learning lots of new duties, while trying to transition my old ones has been really mentally exhausting. On the days I didn't get up to run early, I had planned to run after work, but I was so drained when I closed my laptop at the end of the day that I didn't have the energy.
I've been trying to get myself to bed earlier, and this week I did rebound a little bit, squeezing in a very slow waddle after work last night and a cross-training session tonight.
I'm hoping as I continue to adjust to my new job and focus on getting myself enough asleep, I'll be better about getting myself out of bed for my runs. January wasn't a bad start, but I'm looking forward to trying to establish a better routine in February.
